Gonzaga in West Coast final
Byron Wesley scored 25 points and led a second-half run with teammate Kyle Wiltjer as top-seeded and seventh-ranked Gonzaga defeated Pepperdine 79-61 on Monday night in Las Vegas. The Bulldogs (31-2) reached their 18th consecutive West Coast Conference championship game and will play the Portland-Brigham Young winner.
•MEN'S TOURNAMENT WINNERS: Lee Skinner scored 17 points, and top-seeded Wofford held off 10th-seeded Furman 67-64 in the Southern Conference title game in Asheville, N.C.. The Terriers (28-6) won despite 52 percent shooting by Furman (11-22) … Northeastern (23-11) claimed the Colonial Athletic Association crown in Baltimore with a 72-61 victory over top seed William & Mary (20-12), which has never played in the NCAA Tournament. … Third-seeded Manhattan beat top-seeded Iona 79-69 in Albany, N.Y., to repeat as Metro Atlantic champion.
• WOMEN's QUALIFIERS: Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led four Connecticut players in double figures with 23 points, and the top-ranked Huskies (32-1) beat South Florida 84-70 to win the American Athletic Conference tournament, in Uncasville, Conn. … Quinnipiac, in its second year in the league, ended Marist's nine-year run as Metro Atlantic champion by beating the Red Foxes 72-61 in Albany, N.Y. The Bobcats (31-3) earned their second NCAA bid in three years. Hopkins graduate Sydney Coffey scored 21 for Marist (21-11). … Nina Davis' 16 points and 11 rebounds led No. 5 Baylor (30-3) to a 75-64 victory over Texas and the Big 12 title, in Dallas.
• Kansas fired women's coach Bonnie Henrickson after 11 seasons that included two trips to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Henrickson, a Willmar, Minn., native who played collegiately at St. Cloud State, was let go three days after Kansas (15-17) lost to Kansas State in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.
•Texas Southern withdrew from the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament, punishing itself for a bench-clearing brawl in Saturday night's game against Southern.
