Class AA New Britain outfielder Joe Benson will undergo left knee surgery on Monday in the Twin Cities to repair a slight meniscus tear. Benson reported clicking in the knee recently, and an MRI exam confirmed the tear. Twins head physician Dr. John Steubs will handle the surgery.

Jim Rantz, the Twins' director of minor leagues, hopes Benson can return to action in two-to-three weeks.

In 50 games, Benson is batting .294 with 5 home runs and 26 RBI. He also has 16 doubles, two triples and seven  stolen bases.

Cuban righthander Deinys Suarez  has officially been assigned to New Britain after getting into game shape at extended spring training. He'll pitch out of the bullpen for now.
