MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota United FC will play the Houston Dynamo on June 18 in the round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup.
The Loons learned their opponent on Thursday in the annual tournament that's the third longest-running soccer competition in the world, dating to 1914. There were 94 teams entered in the event from all levels of American soccer, including eight rounds of single-elimination play until a champion is crowned in September. This is the furthest that Minnesota has made it in the franchise's history. The Loons beat Cincinnati on penalty kicks in the fourth round on Wednesday.
Minnesota is 1-1-1 in three all-time MLS matches against Houston, including a 2-1 victory at TCF Bank Stadium earlier this season.
