The Minnesota Senate ethics committee will delay deliberations on whether a former top leader violated ethical rules until Tuesday.

Before the Legislature went on a week long break, it had announced it would resume considerations of the ethics complaint against Sen. Geoff Michel, a former deputy majority leader, Monday, the day it returned from a spring break. But Saturday morning, it rescheduled the ethics hearing until Tuesday.

Michel has been accused of mishandling the aftermath of the affair between former Majority Leader Amy Koch and staffer Michael Brodkorb. Koch resigned from leadership late last year and Brodkorb was fired. Brodkorb is preparing to sue the Senate over his dismissal and related issues.

According to Senate rules, the Senate must deal with ethics complaints within 30 days of filing. The ethics complaint against Michel was filed on March 19.
