‘Laying in Wait’

Wait for it. No, really. In Emmett Ramstad’s immersive two-floor exhibition, he builds environments designed for waiting. Upstairs, lie down on a bench and stare up at foamy white ceiling tile and a patch of artificial blue skies and fluffy white clouds. In the back room, one wall is covered entirely in tissue boxes. Take some time to cry or blow your nose. Downstairs it’s all about waiting in the bathroom. Sit down on a wooden plank with holes in it and buckets underneath, and read the latest copy of the giant, glossy magazine Artforum. Or just go into the actual bathroom and watch a film on repeat. With all of these places to “relax,” suddenly waiting seems very anxiety-inducing. You need a distraction. (3-6 p.m. Thu.-Fri.; 1-6 p.m. Sat.-Sun. Ends May 11.
