1865: The first Jews settle in Minneapolis.

1884: Adath Jeshurun is the city's first synagogue.

1920: Mercury Club founded at the Wells Memorial House on the North Side.

1936: Hy Truman Award created in honor of a founding member; Milton "Bud" Mintkin is the first winner.

1946: Author Carey McWilliams names Minneapolis "the capital of anti-Semitism in the United States."

1950s: The Jewish community sees a major migration from north Minneapolis to St. Louis Park.

1959: Alan Stiegler, the 1943 Hy Truman Award winner (and now oldest surviving recipient), helps found the Sabes JewishCommunity Center.

1964: Al Druskin, the 1959 winner, plays for the University of Minnesota's NCAA champion baseball team.

1973: Marc Trestman wins the Truman Award; he goes on to coach in the Canadian Football League and the NFL.

1987: Deborah Levin Stillman is the first female winner. Her father, Marshall Levin, won in 1954, and her daughter, Sophie, would win in 2012.

2004: The first third-generation winner is named; Ben Stein joins his father, Bob Stein (1964) and grandfather Marv Wolfenson (1944).

2016: The first scholarships are awarded — $1,000 to each winner.
