The Lynx have signed unrestricted free agent Erin Thorn, a nine-year veteran guard. She played for the Chicago Sky last season and averaged 5.4 points and 2.4 assists per game in 16.8 minutes.
“We are excited to welcome Erin to the Minnesota Lynx organization,” said Roger Griffith, Lynx executive vice president. “She is a fantastic shooter and a threat to score from anywhere on the court. Erin will add some excellent depth to our backcourt this season."
Thorn shot 39.5 percent on three-pointers last season (32 for 81)and 94.7 percent from the line (18 for 19). She played in all 34 regular-season games and started seven.
“We’re happy to add someone of Erin’s experience,” Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said in a team news release. “Erin has been around the league for a long time and carries a strong reputation for being a heady player with leadership qualities. Additionally, Erin has tremendous versatility and can play both guard positions, which will be a valuable asset for our bench.”
Thorn played college basketball at Brigham Young and was taken in the second round of the 2003 draft by the New York Liberty. She played for the Liberty her first six season in the league and for Chicago her last three.
With her, the Lynx have 10 signed players for next season, plus they will add five more through the 2012 WNBA draft. They have the No. 3 and 12 picks in the first round, three picks in the second round and one in the third.
The other nine signed players played on 2011 WNBA championship team. The one unsigned free agent is Charde Houston, a four-year member of the Lynx who was a reserve forward.
