A man in a stolen car fleeing Roseville police Saturday evening crashed into another vehicle in St. Paul, fatally injuring a woman and seriously injuring her male companion, police said.

An 8-year-old boy, who was in the car with the suspect, also was taken to Regions Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Roseville police.

The chase began around 7 p.m., police said, when officers responded to a report of a stolen car and a domestic assault near Hwy. 36 and Dale Street.

Police said they saw the suspect speeding away in the stolen car and began pursuing him, but backed off and ended the pursuit because of his "aggressive and dangerous driving."

The suspect was reportedly driving 90 miles an hour on Hwy. 36 shortly before the collision at the Larpenteur Avenue exit off Interstate 35E.

The man and woman, whose names have not yet been released, were taken to Regions Hospital, where the woman died, police said in a statement.

The injured man was listed in serious condition. Police said the boy's relationship to the suspect was not known.

The suspect, who has been taken into custody, was "only slightly wounded," police said, and initial reports indicated he was intoxicated.

The police department issued a statement, saying that "No Roseville officers were pursuing the vehicle at the time of the crash."
