A 20-year-old Minneapolis woman faces assault charges in connection with a hit-and-run crash that occurred on the city's North Side earlier this month, a video of which later made the rounds on social media.

The woman, Timeshia Frye, was charged with first- and second-degree assault after police say she drove her SUV over a woman with whom she had been arguing. Frye was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County jail, four days after the incident allegedly happened. She was later released from custody and is slated to make an initial court appearance on May 16.

On April 14, Frye became involved in a verbal confrontation with two women, including the victim, who had earlier exchanged words with Frye's sister, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District court. The victim started taunting Frye and her sister to get out of their blue Ford Explorer, which was stopped in the middle of Lowry Avenue, the dividing line of the Jordan and Cleveland neighborhoods, the complaint read. Frye refused, police said, and appeared to be driving away when she made an abrupt U-turn and accelerated at the two women.

The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Lowry and Queen avenues, near the Lowry Café. Police said the victim and the other woman were stepping onto the sidewalk when Frye swerved toward them. The other woman managed to jump out of the way, but the victim was struck and lay motionless in the middle of the road for several moments, according to a video taken by a bystander and shared thousands of times on Facebook. A burst of gunfire can be heard in the clip three-minute clip after the SUV, which stopped "briefly" after the crash, fled westbound on Lowry.

The victim was taken to a hospital, authorities said, for surgery to put a steel rod in her fractured femur.
