Minnesota DFL Chair Ken Martin was elected to a second term as the party's leader on Saturday.

Martin, like the rest of the DFL leadership, was unopposed.

In his acceptance speech, he said that the party has never been more powerful.

In November, Minnesota flipped the Legislature from GOP control to DFL control, added Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan to Congress, giving Democrats five of Minnesota's eight House seats, and re-elected Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar. Democrats also have control of the state's governor's office, all its other constitutional offices, and Minnesota's second U.S. Senate seat.

Since the 2012 election, Martin said, the DFL has repeatedly been warned against overreach. But, the added, the flip side of that warning is that the powerful party underperforms.

"If the last election was a referendum on anything, it was a referendum on inaction, on gridlock, on shutdown, on partisanship. People want to see us move a progressive agenda forward," he said.
