ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska State Troopers say a Wisconsin man died in an accident aboard a boat in Cook Inlet.

Troopers say 55-year-old Lewis Byerly of Frederic on Thursday morning pulled up an anchor with a motorized winch on the fishing boat Anna Lane and his arm became tangled in the chain.

He could not get free and the winch pulled him into the machinery, killing him.

Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen tells KTUU-TV (http://bit.ly/126J0ug) that Byerly was one of two people on the boat about a mile and a half off shore near Ninilchik (nih-NIL'-chek) on the Kenai (KEE'-neye) Peninsula.

The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy.

Troopers say they reported the incident to the Coast Guard and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
