SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The family of a 13-year-old Sun Prairie boy who nearly drowned in the high school pool has taken steps to sue the school district.

WISC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/19UVNFe ) the family of Trevonne Allen filed a notice of claim Tuesday and plans to sue for $150,000 in damages plus medical costs.

Allen was under water for over 3 minutes during a physical education class March 20.

He was rescued when a student alerted a teacher. The family asserts there was only one certified lifeguard for 188 students.

Sun Prairie School District administrator Tim Culver said Wednesday by email he couldn't comment on legal matters. He referred to a May 28 blog post to parents, where he wrote the district conducted an internal review and planned to create improved guidelines on pool procedures.
