To paraphrase a timeworn marketing phrase, "Le Beaujolais magnifique est arrivée." I can't imagine a better introduction (in flavor and value) to the real Beaujolais than the 2013 Domaine de la Madone Beaujolais Despres le Perreon. This plummy, peppery, herby gem roars through the palate before settling into a still-vibrant but almost elegant finish. The spot-on acidity make it a seriously versatile food wine, from burgers and brats to moderately spicy Tex-Mex and Creole dishes.
Available at Liberty Village, Thomas, the Wine Market, Solo Vino and South Lyndale.
