Winter doesn't scare us.

The 4,000 advance tickets available for the zipline across the Mississippi River sold out in 72 hours. The $30 tickets went on sale last Thursday.

Super Bowl planners say they've still got some 6,000 tickets available for same-day sales during the Super Bowl Live event beginning the evening of Jan. 26. Those tickets can be purchased at zipline headquarters on the corner of 7th Avenue South and Nicollet Mall. Riders will then hop on a Polaris Ranger for the ride to the zipline starting point on Nicollet Island.

Canada-based Ziptrek EcoTours is building four 100-foot towers on the island where riders will board the lines and fly 750 feet across the river to the West River Parkway. Polaris will then shuttle them back to Nicollet Mall.

The lines will be positioned just above St. Anthony Falls and the Stone Arch Bridge. Views of the skyline should be spectacular. Can't predict the weather yet, but it will be late January so heavy duty layers and balaclavas are probably a good idea.

Super Bowl CEO Maureen Bausch said planners are thrilled about the brisk sales and added that there will be activities for everyone during the event culminating in the game Feb. 4. "It's going to be an incredible 10-day party you won't want to miss," she said.

The zipline event is sponsored by XOOX, former Minnesota Viking Robert Griffith's new backpack company.
