School, St. Thomas team up for jobs fair

Richfield High School will host its first career/job fair for high school students on Tuesday, April 29.

The high school is teaming up with Enactus, a student organization at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, to feature companies and businesses from Richfield and surrounding communities, as well as seminars on career development.

The fair will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Students from Richfield and the surrounding area are invited.

Orono

High school band sets annual pops concert

The Orono High School Band will present its annual pops concert on Saturday, March 15.

The evening will feature musical performances by each of the high school bands, with student-directed entertainment during breaks in the musical program.

Refreshments will be served by eighth-grade students midway through the concert. The concert will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Orono High School gymnasium.

Tickets are available at the door and are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $3 for children ages 5 to 10.

Miracle League registration underway

The West Metro Miracle League is calling all children and youth ages 3 to 19 with cognitive or physical challenges to register by March 30 for its 2014 baseball season.

With games every Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday in May and June at Bennett Family Park in Minnetonka, players are paired with a volunteer buddy for a fun-filled season of baseball on the official Subway Restaurants-Harmon ­Killebrew Field, which features a special rubberized surface enabling children to safely navigate the bases.

To expand the league's offerings to an even more diverse range of children and youth with special needs, the league will introduce a new "Player's League" this season for those requiring only minimal help from buddies.

Highlights of the 2014 season will include a preseason clinic for registered players from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, at the Tonka Dome, on the south side of the Minnetonka High School campus, 18301 Hwy. 7, and DQ Day this summer with free Dilly Bars for participants.

The cost to register a player is $50 per child. Families with more than one child receive a discount of $5 per child when the kids are registered at the same time. High school to hold college fair March 20

Minnetonka High School will host a college fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in the school's student union.

Arts school presents 'Drowsy Chaperone'

The students of Main Street School of Performing Arts will perform the musical comedy "The Drowsy Chaperone" on Thursday, March 13, and Friday, March 14.

The story features an ­agoraphobic Broadway fanatic who, in seeking to cure his "nonspecific sadness," listens to a recording of the fictional 1928 musical comedy "The Drowsy Chaperone." The musical bursts to life in his ­living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find her true love.

The performances will take place at 7 p.m. at the Illusion Theatre, , 528 Hennepin Av., Minneapolis Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students.
