Minnesota Department of Transportation crews get back to work on resurfacing I-694 in the northern suburbs Friday night through Monday morning. While they are at it, the also plan to knock off a few items on its "to do" list left over from last summer's pavement rehab project.

This also should be the last weekend of the single lane configuration on I-35 in Lakeville between County Road 70 and County Road 50. MnDOT says the freeway should be fully open by Monday morning.

As lanes close in the north, there will be lots of pomp and circumstance at Target Field where the revamped transit station opens with a big party Saturday. You can read about that in my earlier post.

Woodbury officials are warning drivers to expect heavy traffic on Radio Drive and I-94 as a new Cabela's store is celebrating its grand opening through Sunday.

The Minnesota Twins are home with games Friday through Sunday at Target Field against the Seattle Mariners. The Lynx kick off their home season at 4 p.m. Sunday at Target Center. Art-a-Whirl in northeast Minneapolis and the AIDS Walk and related festivities in Minnehaha Park on Sunday morning and afternoon will be traffic generators.

I-694 paving project

All westbound lanes of I-694 between Hwy. 10 in Arden Hills and Central Avenue in Fridley will be shut down from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Here is the recommended detour: Westbound on Hwy. 10 to northbound I-35W to westbound Hwy. 10 and Hwy. 610 then south on Hwy. 252 back to I-694.

Eastbound lanes of I-694 between Xerxes Avenue and Hwy. 252 will be shut down from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Here is the recommended detour: Traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound lanes of I-94, which runs parallel to 694. Once past the work zone, drivers can either continue east (south) on 94 to Minneapolis, or return to eastbound 694.

A couple notes with this is that the ramp from Shingle Creek Pkwy. to eastbound 694 will be closed. The ramp from Hwy. 100 to eastbound I-694 will be restricted to a single lane during the work.

I-35 in Lakeville and Elko

The single lane configuration on I-35 from County Road 50 to County Road 70 remains in place until Monday. The following ramps also remain closed:

  • Southbound I-35 to 185th Street / County Road 60 closed through May 19.
  • Hwy 50 to southbound I-35 closed through 5 a.m., Tuesday, May 20.

Further south, be ready for lane closures in Owatonna.

Hwy. 10 in Anoka/Coon Rapids

Nightly lane closures between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. continue as part of a resurfacing project. Look for the work between Fairoak Avenue and Hanson Boulevard.

Hwy. 169 in Edina

The long running closure of southbound Hwy. 169 continues as MnDOT replaces the overpass over the Crosstown. The highway is closed from the Crosstown to Valley View Road. Motorists are being detoured west on Hwy. 212 then east on I-494.

I-35E in St. Paul

The ramp from southbound I-35E to Victoria Street and the ramp from Victoria Street to northbound I-35E is closed until 7 p.m., Monday, June 16. The ramp closures are needed as crews route a natural gas pipeline along Victoria Street beneath the interstate.

Robbinsdale half marathon

Among the noteworthy street closings or where runners will have priority include all or portions of: Shoreline Drive, Lake Drive, 40th and 43rd Avenues, West Broadway, Regent Avenue, Lee Avenue, Basset Creek Drive, France Avenue and York Avenue. Metro Transit says Route 14R will be on detour from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Here is the travel alert:

Northbound 14R buses will travel regular route on West Broadway to 40th Ave N, left on 40th Ave N to 39 1/2 Ave N, right on Noble, right on 41st Ave N, left on Hubbard and resume regular routing.

Southbound buses will travel regular route to 41st Ave N, right on 41st Ave N, left on Noble, left on 39 1/2 Ave N to 40th Ave N, right on West Broadway and resume regular routing.

Look for traffic restrictions on West River Pkwy and South Mississippi Blvd. between Ford Pkwy. and Lake Street as walkers raise money for AIDS research. Here is information on parking and logistics.

Woodbury Cabela's

Police are telling motorists to use expect extra traffic for a couple months on the I-94 and Radio Drive corridor now that the new Cabela's in Woodbury has opened. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible, according to an email from the city.

The store has been working with Woodbury Police to manage traffic flow during the opening, the city said. This weekend likely will be extremely busy with celebrity appearances and family activities today through Sunday. the store is at at 8400 Hudson Road,
