Nordic walking

William O'Brien State Park

Join a certified Nordic walking instructor for an aerobic walk and learn about the Big Woods ecosystem, including some of the plants and animals. Nordic walking is an aerobic activity. The form distributes the walker's weight more so knees aren't doing all of the work. Demonstration poles, which are different from trekking and hiking poles, will be provided. This program is geared to people who can walk 45-60 minutes, including small hills, with confidence. Wear comfortable shoes with good tread and bring water. Registration required; call 651-433-0500. Geocaching 101

'Roving naturalist'

Nerstrand Big Woods State Park

Family archery

Cleary Lake Regional Park

Learn the basics of shooting safely and accurately with skilled instructors. Shoot at stationary targets and compete in fun shooting games. Equipment provided. Cost is $10. May Day hike

Morels and flowers

Whitewater State Park

Morels should be popping up along with spring wildflowers. Look for both on an easy hike. Given a good harvest, we'll sauté and sample the mushrooms we find. Registration required.
