The Vikings defeated the Seattle Seahawks 24-13 in their third preseason game and first at Mall of America Field at the Metrodome.
The offense is trying to sort things out after experiencing so much change the past few weeks. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said he will consider playing his starters some in Thursday's preseason finale because that unit needs more work together before the Sept. 9 season opener.
Here are some quick notes and quotes from the postgame locker room:
- Brett Favre played into the second half and completed 16 of 26 passes for 187 yards and two interceptions (Bernard Berrian was responsible for one on a ball he should have caught but was deflected and returned for a touchdown.) Favre tore the fingernail on his index finger on a sack on the opening series. "We obviously are not hitting on all cylinders yet, but overall I was pleased," Favre said. "I thought I threw the ball well for the most part."
- Percy Harvin returned after dealing with severe migraines the past few weeks. Harvin had a 34-yard reception on the Vikings first play. "I felt great," he said. "Just glad to get back out there with my teammates and work some of the rust off. I've got a lot of work to do, conditioning-wise, but it felt good to get out there." Harvin said he had another test Friday night and that doctors believe they have figured out what has been causing his migraines. "We're feeling really confident," he said. "I know we said that a couple times, but I think this time we found what the main cause was. I'm not saying I'll never get a headache again, but hopefully we can slow it down a little bit. ... It's not life-threatening, but it's something we need to work on and I will." Mark Craig will have more on Harvin's situation in a story posted online.
- Anthony Herrera started at center in place in John Sullivan, who is still bothered by a calf injury. Both Brad Childress and Bevell said it's possible that Herrera could be the starter at center for the season opener. Sullivan returned to practice this week but he really hasn't had much contact work in training camp.
- Rookie Chris Cook certainly made his case to be the starter at right cornerback. Cook had only one pass thrown his direction but he made two nice open-field tackles and looked confident in coverage. Cook injured his knee in the third quarter but he described it as a "ding."
- Greg Camarillo caught four passes for 47 yards after arriving in a trade late this week. "I thought Greg gave a great account of himself after really just getting here and running through some stuff on Friday," Childress said. "He's got amazing football IQ."
- Childress said he wished Javon Walker got more plays, but the veteran made a heck of a play on his 25-yard touchdown catch from Sage Rosenfels in the fourth quarter.
- Rookie running back Toby Gerhart injured his right knee in the third quarter. He said his knee got bent backward in a pile, but that he was held out as a precaution.
We'll have a lot more coverage of tonight's game online and in the Sunday paper.
