Gophers junior guard Rachel Banham has been named to the 2014 Dawn Staley Award Watch List by the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. The award, named after the three-time Olympic gold medalist and Philadelphia native, recognizes the top guard in NCAA Division I women's basketball. The winner will be announced during the week of the Final Four.

* Megan Waytashek of Lino Lakes was named the Summit League player of the week after leading the South Dakota State women's basketball team to victories over Denver and South Dakota. Waytashek, a 6-0 junior from Centennial, averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals while making 14 of 17 free throws for the league-leading Jackrabbits.

* Two South Dakota State junior football players from the Twin Cities — All-America running back Zach Zenner of Eagan and receiver Jason Schneider of Andover — were honored by the Jackrabbits. Zenner, a two-time 2,000-yard rusher, was named the team's most valuable player, and Schneider, the first Jackrabbits receiver to surpass 1,000 yards in their Division I era, was chosen the offensive MVP and received the squad's Scholar-Athlete Award. Senior linebacker R.C. Kilgore of Cottage Grove was chosen the defensive MVP. Kilgore led the Missouri Valley Football Conference in tackles with 134, while adding a team-best seven takeaways — five fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
