Two men were injured Friday night after crashing a vehicle into a smoke shop in south Minneapolis, police said Saturday.

The driver of the vehicle, Aaron R. Day, 44, of Onamia, Minn., was arrested, according to the police report. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, police said.

The men were headed west on E. Lake Street and approached 27th Avenue S. around 11:09 p.m. Friday, according to the report. Day suddenly tried to turn left on 27th Avenue and instead drove the car onto the south sidewalk on Lake Street.

The car hit two trees and smashed into the front of GM Tobacco & Super Vapor, a smoke shop located in a small strip of stores, according to the police report.

The car came to a stop near the shop. When police arrived, they found Day and another man unconscious inside the car.

The two were taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center with noncritical injuries. Day was arrested pending charges of DWI with drugs involved, careless driving and driving under a revoked license, according to the report.

GM Tobacco & Super Vapor closes at 8 p.m., according to the operation hours posted online.
