The Twins have selected righthander Terry Doyle from the White Sox organization in the Rule 5 draft.

Doyle,26, was a combined 8-10 with a 3.07 ERA between Class A Winston-Salem and Class AA Birmingham.

Here's what MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo wrote about Doyle before the draft:

Terry Doyle, RHP, White Sox: The right-hander split time across two levels and his 3.07 ERA was second lowest in the organization. He then pitched very well in the Arizona Fall League. He topped 200 total innings for the year, showing a workhorse future.

Doyle opened eyes this year in the Arizona Fall League, where he went 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA and 22 strikeouts and only five walks in 27 1/3 innings.

So it wasn't Cesar Cabral, as I was told last night. Doyle makes more sense, as he's been a starter while Cabral is a reliever. And, boy, do the Twins need starters. Doyle could land in a long relief role while someone like Anthony Swarzak goes into the rotation.

There's a chance that the Twins have swung a deal and have selected Doyle for someone else. Stay tuned.

In the minor league phase, the Twins selected righthander Marty Popham from Cleveland. Popham went 6-3,4.58 at three stops in the Indians chain last season. He spent most of his time at Class A Kinston, where he was 6-2, 4,19 with 95 strikeouts in 96.2 innings. Here'ssome old stuff on Popham.

The Shooter Hunt era is over. St. Louis selected Hunt in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft. A former sandwich pick by the Twins, Hunt battled severe control problems.
