Manager Ron Gardenhire said after Thursday's game that the Twins have placed Denard Span on the 15-day disabled list with a joint strain in his right shoulder, an injury he suffered diving for a ball against Tampa Bay 2 1/2 weeks ago.
The Twins did not announce who will be called up in his place, but the 25-man roster limit will end on Saturday, and the Twins are expected to call up several players to look at over the final weeks of the season.
Span returned to action during last week's series in Texas but his shoulder continued to bother him.
