Gotta run down into the clubhouse right now, but here are some thoughts on Francisco Liriano being dealt to the White Sox.

Chicago lowers trade value: There were a bunch of scouts at Liriano's last start in Chicago, Were that many turned off by that bad outing? The last time the Twins and White Sox made a trade was April of 1986! It just doesn't happen....

The fact that the Twins dealt him within the division tells me that there weren't other offers out there that the Twins were interested in. The Twins were determined from the start to get whatever they could for Liriano. Just didn't think it would be the White Sox.

Why two semi-prospects?: Liriano is going to free agency, and that affects what teams are willing to give up because he's a two-month rental. I never thought the Twins were going to get top prospects in return for him. Should the Twins have kept him and offered a one-year deal for around $12 million? The Twins already have about $64 million in contract commitments for next season. My guess is that they want to take the $5.5 million Liriano is making and the $8.5 million Carl Pavano is making and use it for a quality free agent. At least that's what they SHOULD do.

About the prospects: Don't know too much about them. Hernandez throws a lot of strikes, which the Twins like, but is not overpowering. Escobar is supposed to be an excellent glove man with a decent arm. My guess here is that he's a replacement option for Alexi Casilla next season. Escobar was very popular in the White Sox clubhouse and apparently took news of the trade pretty hard.

More deals?: Unlikely. Their asking price for Denard Span will be high. They don't want to trade Willingham or Morneau. All it takes is a phone call to change things but I don't expect another trade, at least involving one of these guys.

Gotta run. Will check back later with updates and lineups

UPDATES

Jeff Manship is being called up from Class AAA Rochester to take Liriano's spot on the roster. Manship is 6-2 with a 2.35 ERA for the Red Wings but has struggled when the Twins have summoned him.

Right now, the White Sox have Jose Quintana, Jake Peavy and Chris Sale lined up to face the Twins this week at Target Field. Stay tuned.

Rigthhander Alex Wimmers tried to pitch recently while with the rookie team but Terry Ryan just said, "it didn't go well." Wimmers is headed for another MRI.

Both righthander Kyle Gibson and second baseman Eddie Rosario have been playing with the rookie GCL team but will be moving on this week, Gibson to Class A Fort Myers and Rosario to Class A Beloit.
