TWINS UPDATE

Here's how the Twins helped outfielder Chris Herrmann to stop overthrowing teammates, like he did Thursday: "We gave him pictures to take home of the guy with his hands held up," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said, "that would be the cutoff man." … Albers (11-5, 2.86 ERA at Class AAA Rochester), making his big-league debut, doesn't throw hard and relies on deception and control — like Scott Diamond is supposed to. … Chris Colabello didn't start Sunday and is mired in a 0-for-13 skid that has dropped his average to .167. "You get ahead in the count, you still have to get a good pitch to drive and stay on it," Gardenhire said. "It looks like he's trying too hard to do too much." … Reliever Jared Burton enters the series with a 12⅓-innings scoreless streak.

ROYALS UPDATE

The Royals left Target Field last week on a roll and nothing has changed. They beat the Mets 6-2 on Sunday, have won 11 of their past 12 games and went a franchise-record 8-1 on their nine-game road trip. … Catcher Salvador Perez suffered a low-grade concussion Saturday and will miss the series. He was put on the disabled list, and Brett Hayes was called up from Class AAA Omaha to replace him. … Davis is scheduled to pitch Wednesday, but he left on family medical emergency leave Saturday. That can last from three to seven days. For now, lefthander Will Smith has been called up to replace Davis on the roster until he returns. … The Royals remain in the hunt for a second baseman as they try to get by with Miguel Tejada and Elliot Johnson while Chris Getz is on the disabled list.
