The final frontier

A decade ago, it would have seemed incredulous to have Halle Berry headline a network TV series, but with her career cooling down and juicy film roles for — ahem — middle-aged women drying up, it's perfectly natural to see her star in "Extant," a sci-fi series about an astronaut who returns from a yearlong space mission, only to find out she's with child (and, no, the father isn't "Gravity" hunk George Clooney). Steven Spielberg is listed as an executive producer. 8 p.m. WCCO, Ch. 4.

The birds and the bees

"East Los High," which returns for a second season, is a strong believer in sex education, with frank, engaging conversation about reproductive health in a meaningful and realistic way. It's Hulu's first and only series with an all-Latino cast. Available now at hulu.com

Bridge over troubled water

Another season, another murder. But "The Bridge," which starts its sophomore year, is never really about the crime. It's about a corrupt atmosphere and two complicated but well-meaning cops (Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir) desperately trying to do the right thing. Their misery is our good fortune. Let's hope Emmy voters show them some love when nominations are announced Thursday morning. 9 p.m. FX
