Justin Hockensmith, a St. Paul native, caught the above 38.5-inch trophy pike May 23 drifting dead ciscos in the BWCA. Hockensmith released the fish, which he estimated to be at least 18 years old.

NO DOUBT, A BIG TROUT

Wendy Mowry of Rosemount caught this 28-inch trout on Lake Superior on May 23. Mowry was with a local charter, which was trolling about 20 minutes from Duluth Harbor when she hooked the fish. She landed it several minutes later.

NO. 1 WALLEYE

8-year-old Alan Groskreutz of Eagan, with the help of his uncle Clarence Miller, caught his first walleye — a 21-incher — on Lac qui Parle Lake on May 29.
