A tow-truck driver told authorities that a car cut across his path at a north metro intersection, causing a collision that killed the driver of the smaller vehicle.

The wreck occurred about 6:10 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Hwy. 65 and 187th Lane NE in East Bethel, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Roxanne H. McCormick, 57, was killed in the crash, which occurred less than 3 miles from her East Bethel home, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

McCormick was taken by emergency personnel to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, and she died there about six hours later.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

The tow-truck driver said he was heading north on Hwy. 65, and the eastbound car failed to yield and "pulled directly in front" of the rig.

Sheriff's Cmdr. Paul Sommer said there were no other witnesses to the crash, and neither vehicle had passengers.

McCormick was not wearing a seat belt, and the impact threw her from her car.

The tow truck driver, a 23-year-old man from Ham Lake, was not hurt.
