They're playing Bonnaroo, Milwaukee's Summerfest and many other outdoor gigs on their newly announced summer tour, but Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers will once again have to head inside for their Twin Cities gig. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will return to Target Center on June 29. Tickets go on sale March 15 through the arena box office and www.AXS.com for $99.50, $69.50, $49.50 and $25. Look for pre-sale options at www.TomPetty.com. No opening act has been announced.

Given the timing of their tour and their broad appeal, Petty and the boys would have been a good choice to headline one of Minneapolis' two new sports stadiums or especially St. Paul's River's Edge Music Festival, but the Twins already booked Kenny Chesney for the second straight summer and Live Nation put River's Edge on hold for its second year. The Heartbreakers' last time at Target Center in 2008 was a sold-out affair, and they also performed to a near-full house in 2010 at Xcel Energy Center.

Petty's tour -- which is not promoting any new album -- will land at Milwaukee's popular summer bash the night before their Minneapolis gig. The band also booked two special week-long residencies at smaller theaters on their tour, starting with the Beacon in New York City from May 20-26 and then the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles June 3-11.
