'skiing on broken glass'

Previews Tuesday: A version of David Goldstein's "Skiing on Broken Glass" opened to kudos in the 2010 Fringe Festival, but the drama has been rewritten so extensively that this production qualifies as a premiere. It revolves around mature gay writer Mark (Michael Booth), who is in mourning after his partner's death. Mark falls for Todd (David Darrow of Theatre Latte Da's "Spring Awakening"), an escort whose nearly fatal accident draws them closer. "It's really about two people who are caught in the tension between the safety of withdrawal and the temptation of connection," said Goldstein, a lawyer-turned-playwright who formerly was a Guthrie board member. The cast is rounded out by Michelle O'Neill and Bill McCallum. Joe Dowling directs. (7:30 p.m. Tue.-Sat., 1 & 7 p.m. next Sun. $24-$39. Ends Nov. 17. Guthrie Theater, 818 S. 2nd St., Mpls. 612-377-2224, www.guthrietheater.org.)
