'Red Resurrected'

Isabel Nelson won the 2012 emerging artist award at last year's Ivey awards. She and her ensemble, Transatlantic Love Affair, were honored a year earlier for "The Ballad of the Pale Fisherman." The troupe returns with an expanded project, "Red Resurrected," that deconstructs the Red Riding Hood fable. They infuse this show, which was a hit at the 2011 Fringe Festival, with elements of Greek myth and Mexican folklore. (8 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 7 p.m. Sun., 8 p.m. Thu. Ends March 2. Illusion Theater, 528 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. $15-$20, 612-339-4944 or illusiontheater.org.)

'Venus and Adonis'

Cupid aims his bow at the Ballet of the Dolls this weekend with the premiere of "The Blue Stockings Society's Production of Venus and Adonis." The Blue Stockings Society was a group of mid-18th-century women who gathered to discuss art, music and philosophy. What would happen if these women were to meet today for a conversation about love and romance in the age of Internet dating and Facebook? As always, choreographer Myron Johnson takes his inspiration from a variety of singers, in this case the divine Kate Bush, Patti Smith, Carole King and Tracy Chapman, among others. Opening night will feature post-show catering by Chowgirls and drink specials. (9 p.m. Thu.-Sun., $18.50-$23.50, Ritz Theater, 345 13th Av. NE., Mpls.,612-436-1129. www.ritz-theater.org.

BALLET WORKS PROJECT

Each year James Sewell Ballet reaches out to choreographic talent in the local dance community and beyond through its Ballet Works Project. This year's program is full of fresh talent, with new works by Karen L. Charles of Threads Dance Project ("Call") as well as independent dance makers Chris Schlichting ("Intervals") and Judith Howard (whose "Lounge Twins Die and Go to Heaven" created for Nic Lincoln and guest artist Erin Thompson sounds particularly promising). The line-up also includes "Sail" by young choreographer Erin Arntson of the Reif Dance Program in Grand Rapids, plus "Liberate" from Sewell company member Cory Goei. (8 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 2 p.m. Sun. Ends Feb. 24. $16-$20, Tek Box, 528 Hennepin Av., second floor, Mpls., 612-206-3600. www.jsballet.org.)
