Lauren Roche: Collected Vessels

Lauren Roche's wonderfully bizarre and intuitive mixed-media works dazzle viewers, inviting them into scenes at once ceremonial and ritualistic. In "Two Tigers" (2018), these giant cats circle each other while nude women kiss and pose inside a secluded structure. Black swans dance in the window spaces. One woman cries reddish mucky tears while holding a blanket with a tiger printed onto it. Roche has an interest in communal living spaces and is originally from Santa Rosa, Calif., a city hit hard by fires last fall. Three other pieces with similarly mysterious vibes make up this intimate exhibition of the burgeoning artist's work. Roche will speak about her work April 18 at 7 p.m. (11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed.-Sat. Ends April 14. Bockley Gallery, 2123 W. 21st St., Mpls. Free. 612-377-4669 or bockleygallery.com)
