'Family' squabble

"Modern Family" has a new neighbor, and is not too happy about it. "Thanks for giving us this award before 'Empire' premiered," joked showrunner Steve Levitan as he accepted an honor from the Family Equality Council. The hit Fox drama recently moved to the same time slot as Levitan's show and has been pummeling it in the ratings. "I'd like to thank … everyone at 20th Century Fox Television [which produces 'Family' for ABC] for their continued support," Levitan said. "Now please move 'Empire'!"

The five-year experiment could be over: The Oscar best-picture category reportedly might return to five nominees next year. The current maximum of 10, sparked by the snub of "The Dark Knight" in 2009, hasn't had the intended effect of increasing interest in the Oscars. "They tried it, and it really didn't do us any good," one studio source told the Hollywood Reporter. The academy's board of governors is set to meet March 24.
