RJ's five spot

This week: THE MOST INTRIGUING UNDEFEATED TEAMS

1  TCU (4-0): The Horned Frogs held the ball for 39 minutes and feasted on four turnovers to stun then-No. 6 Oklahoma State last week. The Big 12 sailing isn't overly choppy for No. 9 TCU, which could be undefeated entering its Nov. 11 showdown at No. 3 Oklahoma.

2  Washington State (4-0): When folks around here last saw the No. 16 Cougars, they were being suffocated by the Gophers defense in a 17-12 loss in the Holiday Bowl. QB Luke Falk has passed for 14 TDs with one pick. We'll see how legit Wazzu is with Friday's visit from No. 5 USC.

3  Virginia Tech (4-0): Sure, two of the Hokies' wins were against Delaware and Old Dominion, but they're getting solid play from redshirt freshman QB Josh Jackson (11 TDs, 1 INT). They'll need it Saturday night in Blacksburg against defending national champion Clemson.

4  Duke (4-0): The Blue Devils routed Northwestern and rallied past North Carolina, so they have some Power Five pelts to their credit. If they can beat No. 14 Miami on Friday in Durham, Duke just might be a player in the ACC.

5  South Florida (5-0): Charlie Strong's No. 18 Bulls are allowing 66 rushing yards per game — third nationally behind the Gophers (59) and Duke (65.3). That stifling defense should serve them well in pursuit of the Group of Five's bid to a New Year's Six bowl. Finale vs. Central Florida looms large.
