It can't all be about quarterbacks. ¶ The Vikings have more holes to fill on the 90-man offseason roster after they've zeroed in on an expected deal this week with coveted free agent Kirk Cousins. ¶So who else is out there? Many free agents already are agreeing to deals with new teams, such as ex-Eagles tight end and thrower of a Super Bowl touchdown pass, Trey Burton, heading to Chicago. But teams won't be able to officially sign until free agency begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday. ¶Below are 10 possible free-agent fits, who as of Tuesday evening had not yet agreed to terms with new teams, for the Vikings from around the NFL.
CB Bryce Callahan (Bears)
Callahan, 26, is a restricted free agent who was given a low-level RFA tender, meaning the Vikings wouldn't need to give Chicago any compensation for signing him. So they've inquired about Callahan, a league source told the Star Tribune. The well-regarded slot corner had two pass deflections and a punt return for a touchdown against the Vikings last season.
CB Patrick Robinson (Eagles)
The 30-year-old slot cornerback is reportedly a favorite to re-sign with Philadelphia, but in the chance he is lured away he could be a critical addition to the Vikings secondary. Robinson had 18 deflections, including four interceptions, last season.
TE Martellus Bennett (Patriots)
Bennett's outspoken personality might be tough for leaders of the Vikings' low-key approach to swallow, but he has been a consistent receiving threat. The 31-year-old has the 10th-most receptions by a tight end since he entered the league in 2008.
TE Tyler Eifert (Bengals)
Eifert, 27, caught 13 touchdowns only a few seasons ago. Back issues have held him out of all but 10 games since. The top talent could be worth a chance, especially as the Vikings have a No. 1 tight end, Kyle Rudolph, already in place next to a run-blocking specialist in David Morgan.
LT Nate Solder (Patriots)
Solder turns 30 in April, but the ex-Patriots tackle could be a missing link for a Vikings offensive line still in need of help at tackle. Since he was drafted 17th overall in 2011, Solder has been one of the league's most consistent perimeter blockers and would be a big-time upgrade for the Vikings.
G/T Justin Pugh (Giants)
A back injury ended Pugh's 2017 season after eight games, but the 27-year-old former first-round pick could still be worth a look. Pugh was the Giants' right tackle for a few seasons before transitioning inside to guard.
DL Sheldon Richardson (Seahawks)
Richardson is another former first-round pick on the open market. The 27-year old has only 2.5 sacks in the past two seasons, but he's the kind of talent who keeps getting chances at his age. Richardson could help the Vikings at three-technique next to Linval Joseph.
DT Jay Bromley (Giants)
Bromley was talented enough to be a third-round pick by the Giants in 2014, but he hasn't lived up to expectations with two career sacks. He turns 26 in May and is still young enough to be molded by an experienced coaching staff such as the Vikings'.
LB Tahir Whitehead (Lions)
Whitehead led the Lions in tackles in back-to-back seasons, notching his 2017 season high with 13 tackles against the Vikings on Thanksgiving. The outside linebacker is a well-regarded run stopper and could instantly upgrade the Vikings' base defense.
OLB Nagee Goode (Eagles)
The 28-year-old outside linebacker was a special teams standout in Philadelphia and could be a value signing to bolster the Vikings depth alongside Ben Gedeon and Eric Wilson. The Vikings currently sit with just six linebackers under contract for 2018 and could use special teams contributors like Goode.
