A 27-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder in connection with a fatal shooting outside a St. Paul bar over the weekend.

The victim was identified by a family friend as Ahmed Ismail of St. Paul. Authorities have not officially released his identity.

Police responded to the shooting about 2 a.m. Saturday and found Ismail in the parking lot of Arnellia's bar and restaurant in the 1100 block of University Avenue W. He died at Regions Hospital.

The suspect was arrested in Crystal, and his case was forwarded to the Ramsey County attorney's office. He was not charged Monday.

Mohamud Noor, executive director of the Confederation of Somali Community in Minnesota, said he went to visit Ismail's family.

"This wasn't the right time for him to leave so abruptly at this young age," Noor said, adding that he didn't know what led to the shooting.

Ismail's burial is scheduled for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Maplewood police were investigating another Saturday killing. Justin N. Wright, 31, was found dead by police just before 5 a.m. inside his home in the 2200 block of Hazel Street.
