The Tigers remain fearless on the trade front. In 2007, they sent two high draft picks -- Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller -- to Florida for Miguel Cabrera and never regretted it. Last week, they traded prized lefty Jacob Turner and Class AAA catcher Rob Brantly to the Marlins for pitcher Anibal Sanchez and second baseman Omar Infante.

Last July, the Tigers stole Doug Fister from Seattle. Of the players the Mariners received, only Charlie Furbish (2.15 ERA in 34 games) has thrived. Chance Ruffin had a 6.99 ERA in Class AAA, and third baseman Francisco Martinez -- the most promising prospect --was batting just .251 with two homers in Class AA.

Jake Peavy has been a great turnaround story this season, but there's no chance the White Sox are picking up his $22 million option for 2013, so he could hit the market.

After hitting a career-high 23 home runs last year, Royals leadoff man Alex Gordon entered the weekend with five homers, including one in his previous 308 at-bats. Gordon still led the league with 33 doubles while batting .295 with a .379 on-base percentage.
