Street flooding was reported Tuesday afternoon in Savage and other parts of the south metro as heavy rains swept through the Twin Cities area.

Southeastern Hennepin County, east-central Carver and Scott counties and northwestern Dakota County were under a flash flood warning until 8:15 p.m. Up to 2 inches of rain fell in some of those areas, according to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.

Water swamped some residential streets in Savage. There were no reports of injuries or major damage.

The rainfall slowed the afternoon commute in many areas, and dark skies led motorists to switch on their lights as they slowly made their way through the wet streets.

Rain was expected to continue in the metro area until about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday looks drier and brighter. It will be mostly sunny, with a high near 84, the Weather Service said. Showers and thunderstorms may return Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
