STOCKHOLM — Fearing a bomb threat, Stockholm police arrested a man who claimed to have "a dangerous object with him" when he entered an office Thursday in the city's famous old town, police said.

Police promptly evacuated the area and shut it down for several hours, police spokeswoman Towe Haegg said. Local media reported that a special bomb unit was sent to the scene.

Police were questioning the man and the area was being checked, Haegg said, declining to identify the suspect.

The alarm was raised soon after 2 p.m. when the man entered a building in the popular tourist and shopping venue of Gamla Stan — the city's old town.

"He was not aggressive but he said he was disappointed with the Social Democrats and the (ruling) Moderates Party," she said.
