The state is calling on military combat veterans to sign up for a tax credit based on their wartime service in the year 2009.
The Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone for service in 2009 will expire on Oct. 15, and qualifying soldiers must apply before that deadline, the state said.
The Department of Revenue estimates that more than 2,300 Minnesota soliders qualify for the credit for that year but have not filed for it. For soldiers who served in a combat zone or hazardous duty area in 2009, the credit is $120 per month of service.
The credit is also avaliable for more recent combat zone service, but it is only the credit for 2009 that is expiring this year.To apply, the department said, a solider must file form M99, Credit for Military Service in a Combat zone, by Oct. 15.
