The Star Tribune on Thursday won three regional 2013 Edward R. Murrow multimedia journalism awards, including for overall excellence in online news for the fourth consecutive year.
Rich Tsong-Taatarii was honored for best investigative series with video that accompanied in-depth reporting by Brad Schrade, Jeremy Olson and Glenn Howatt on the spike in infant deaths at poorly regulated day-care homes.
Photographers Jim Gehrz and David Joles won for best documentary, working with reporter Curt Brown on the multimedia project "In the Footsteps of Little Crow." The documentary looked at one of the darkest chaptesr in Minnesota's past, through the rise and fall of one Dakota leader.
The Star Tribune composite for overall excellence showcased video from summer flooding in the Duluth area to investigative reports on war vets, children in Minnesota daycare facilities and former NFL athletes.
The Radio Television Digital News Association's Murrow Awards annually honor excellence in electronic journalism.
