Tuition will rise 4.9 percent at the University of St. Thomas.

That brings undergraduate tuition and fees at the non-profit, private college to $33,040. With room and board, the total grows to $42,565, according to a St. Thomas newsletter. That's an increase of 4.6 percent in the total cost -- "less than the 4.9 percent increase a year ago," the school notes.

The average tuition increase among graduate programs will be 4.4 percent. The college's Board of Trustees set the rates, part of the larger 2012-13 budget, at a meeting Thursday.
