Police have arrested a suspect in Thursday night's fatal shooting in St. Paul of a 17-year-old boy.

The suspect, who was arrested Friday night, is younger than 18 years old and male, but police gave no other identification or information on what role he may have played in the death of Vincent Arron Allison.

On Friday, friends said Allison was visiting from Gary, Ind. In announcing the arrest Saturday night, police said he was from St. Paul.

Allison was found shot in a parking lot near Payne and Lawson Avenues on the city's East Side after officers responded to a large fight in the area of Payne and Case Avenue before 10 p.m. Thursday. Paramedics took Allison to Regions Hospital, where he died.

Police said there had been a separate large street fight earlier Thursday evening, but they don't know whether the two incidents are related. But the fatal shooting apparently is not a random act, the department said.

Allison's shooting death happened in an area where police are dealing with large groups of teens wandering the streets in groups as large as 20 or 30 late at night.
