A St. Paul man shot and wounded a girl while trying to kill a gang member, according to charges filed Friday.

Pierre S. Glass, 18, was charged in Ramsey County District Court with attempted second-degree murder for trying to kill the gang member in St. Paul and second-degree assault for wounding the girl.

According to the complaint, Glass fired into a group of young people walking near the 1800 block of Minnehaha Avenue about 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 30. Glass allegedly was trying to kill a 16-year-old boy who had switched gangs from the Hit Squad, also known as the West Side Bloods, to the East Side Boyz. Glass is said to belong to the Hit Squad.

Glass was in a car when he spotted the group, which had just left a nearby house party.

"Are y'all ready?" Glass yelled, according to the complaint. "Who ready?"

Glass allegedly fired from the back seat of the car, striking a 15-year-old girl who was about 15 feet away. The girl fell to the ground. Glass exited the car and continued to fire.

The girl vomited blood and crawled behind a building for safety. She survived, but doctors decided not to remove a bullet lodged in her chest.

Glass' intended target, the 16-year-old boy, said Glass looked at him and asked his name. The boy said he ran as Glass fired shots and as the car pursued him.

After his arrest, Glass told police he didn't have a gun and that he was going to fight the boy when shots rang out, prompting him to flee to a friend's apartment, charges said.

Glass' criminal history includes convictions in juvenile court for disorderly conduct and two convictions for possession of a pistol or assault weapon, in 2012 and 2011.
