As expected, the St. Paul City Council on Wednesday approved a $385,000 settlement with a former St. Paul and Eden Prairie police officer who had sued the city alleging misuse of her driver's license file by other officers.

The council voted unanimously for the settlement, without discussion.

The former cop, Anne Rasmusson, 38, accused more than 140 metro-area officers of looking at her driver's file without an official purpose. The officers apparently were curious about Rasmusson's reported weight loss and new look.

Sixty-one of those cops were employed by St. Paul Police Department, and Rasmusson alleged they looked up her records 228 times. Under the statutes for unauthorized lookups, the city could have been on the hook for at least $570,000 plus attorneys' fees.

Several suburban cities also have reached a settlement with Rasmusson of $280,000. Remaining defendants in the case include Minneapolis and the state's current and former public safety commissioners.
