Top-seeded St. Paul Academy scored four unanswered goals to beat eighth-seed St. Paul Highland Park 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Section 4 boys' hockey tournament on Friday night. Senior Matt Dahlseide tallied four points on two goals and two assists, scoring minutes apart in the third period to put the game out of reach. Dom Picciano finished with a goal and two assists for the Spartans. Teammate Jake Hosszu tied the score midway through the second after Peter Dadlez gave the Scots an early lead.

Mahtomedi 3, Henry Sibley 0: The second-seeded Zephyrs outshot the seventh-seeded Warriors 38-12 in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Section 4 playoffs. Matt Vannelli, Sam Ayd and Luke Posner scored for the Zephyrs. Goalie Bailey Huber got the shutout. Mahtomedi will play third seed St. Paul Johnson next Wednesday in the section semifinals.

Boys' basketball

Champlin Park 87, Spring Lake Park 53: The Rebels, the top team in Class 4A, took an 11-point lead into halftime and scored 51 after the break to run past the host Panthers. Marcus Hill led the Rebels with 20 points. Teammates Brian Smith and McKinley Wright added 18 and 16, respectively. Kameron Davis led the Panthers with 17. The Rebels (24-0) remain perfect with only two games remaining in conference play.

Apple Valley 87, Eastview 43: Tre Jones finished with a triple-double (29 points, 16 rebounds, 12 assists) to lead the Class 4A, No. 3 Eagles past the Lightning. Teammate Nathan Macho added 18 for the Eagles (22-2, South Suburban 16-0.

Hastings 70, Mahtomedi 69: Brandon Haraldson scored a game-high 26 points and Colin Kummer added 17 to lead the unranked Raiders to an upset of the Class 3A, No. 3 Zephyrs. Teammates Jacob Brake and Sawyer Levos chipped in 11 and 10, respectively. Parker Fox led the Zephyrs with 23 and Shayne Frost with 19. It was only the second conference loss for the Zephyrs (20-3, Metro East 12-2).

Elk River 59, Armstrong 56: The Class 4A, No. 9 Falcons let a three-point halftime lead slip away in a loss against the unranked Elks. Four players scored in double digits for the Elks, led by Jack Burger with 14. Davonte Saeed-El scored 19 for the Falcons. The loss drops Armstrong (17-7, Northwest Suburban 14-3) a half-game behind Maple Grove (21-2, Northwest Suburban 14-2) for the conference lead.

Totino-Grace 74, Centennial 71: Down seven points at the break, the Class 3A, No. 10 Eagles scored 42 points in the second half in a comeback win over the visiting Cougars. Zach Ban and Rocky Kreuser led the Eagles with 22 and 21, respectively. The Cougars' Josh McGreal had a game-high 28 points.

Hopkins 74, Eden Prairie 61: Ishmael El-Amin scored 20 points to lead the Class 4A, No. 6 Royals past the host Eagles. Teammate Joe Hedstrom finished with 19. The Eagles' Owen Chose led all scorers with 27.

Monticello 87, Buffalo 79: Junior guard Matt Todd scored a school-record 52 points to lead the Magic past the Bison on the road. Teammate Rezi Useh added 15. Dylan Rohlin led the Bison with 26 and Andrew Johnson added 25.

Simley 91, South St. Paul 76: Junior guard Jake Binley scored 53 points to set a new Simley scoring record as the Spartans defeated the Packers on the road. Emanuel Olvera led the Packers with 19.

Girls' basketball

Eastview 70, Apple Valley 49: The Class 4A, No. 5 Lightning scored 38 points in the second half to run away from the No. 9 Eagles on the road. The Lighting had four players score in double digits, led by Allie Pickrain with 19 points. Lyndsey Robson led the Eagles with 18.

Minnetonka 60, Edina 50: The Skippers took a seven-point lead into halftime to cruise past the visiting Hornets. Megan Walker led the Skippers with 17 points. Kayla Mershon added 14. The Hornets' Olivia Coughlin had a game-high 20 points.

St. Louis Park 50, Benilde-St. Margart's 48: Kendall Coley scored 16 points to lead the Orioles past the Red Knights. Kamil Mayfield and Shayla Miller added 11 apiece. The Red Knights' Isabel Fleming led all scorers with 17. Aiana Whitfield added 15.

Cretin-Derham Hall 63, Woodbury 58: Autam Mendez and Frannie Hottinger scored 18 apiece to lead the Raiders past the visiting Royals. The Raiders (16-9, Metro East 11-5) are now in a four-way tie for the conference lead with East Ridge, White Bear Lake and Roseville.
