Authorities have identified the man who died after he was hit by a Metro Transit bus in downtown Minneapolis on Thursday.

Mark G. Best, 64, of St. Louis Park, died early Friday, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.

Best died at the Hennepin County Medical Center from "multiple blunt force injuries," according to the medical examiner's report.

Metro Transit said Best was walking in the crosswalk at the intersection of S. Second Street and Marquette Avenue when he was hit.

The driver, a 16-year veteran with an "exemplary work history" was placed on paid administrative leave, said transit spokesman John Siqveland. The driver underwent drug and alcohol testing, which is standard.

This was the 10th fatality involving a pedestrian and a Metro Transit bus in the past 23 years, and the first since 2010.
