City manager seeks Burnsville position

Shakopee's city manager is one of three finalists for the same job in Burnsville.

In a search led by Dave Unmacht, a former Scott County administrator now working as a private consultant, Mark McNeill is vying for the job along with Heather Johnston, Burnsville's chief financial officer, and Walter Wysopal, city manager of North St. Paul.

McNeill has held his current position since 1996, overseeing the tidal wave of growth that has occurred in Shakopee. At 38,000 population, it still is much smaller than Burnsville's 61,000.

The Burnsville City Council was to interview the finalists after press time for this edition on Tuesday.

Bring that fridge in later this month

Folks living in Shakopee and two nearby townships are being asked to bring in old appliances, furniture and the like on a Saturday later this month.

On April 27, two turn-in events will be happening at the same time, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Shakopee Public Works building, 400 Gorman St.:

• People living in Shakopee, as well as Jackson and Louisville townships, are invited to bring in old appliances and electronics, yard waste, tires, car batteries, scrap metal and similar items.

You'll pay $25 per vehicle for recyclable items and $25 to $30 per vehicle for non-recyclables. Some items may cost more. You have to live in those jurisdictions and show an ID.

To see a list of accepted and not-accepted items, go to www.ci.shakopee.mn.us/Clean_Up_Day.cfm. Or call public works at 952-233-9550.

• Shakopee Rotary will collect furniture and household items for Bridging Inc., which serves people in need who've been referred from social service agencies and churches. Donations are tax deductible.

The Rotary is asking for things like "lightly used" furniture, small appliances, kitchenware, linens and games and toys.

Drop off items on the north side of public works that morning, or contact Tim Whitcomb at 952-445-6170 for an at-home pickup.
