Three levy information sessions to be held

District 194 will hold three sessions to inform residents about the $5.6 million levy that will be on the ballot this Nov. 5. If approved, the proposal would raise property taxes on an average-priced Lakeville home by $169 annually for 10 years.

The sessions will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, at 10 a.m. Sept. 26 and at 7 a.m. Oct. 23 at the Crystal Lake Education Center, 16250 Ipava Road in Lakeville.

Girls' lacrosse clinic offered for beginners

The Rosemount High School girls lacrosse team, in collaboration with District 196 Community Education, will hold a "Give it a Shot" beginner's clinic for girls who are new to the sport and interested in learning more.

The clinic will be held at Diamond Path Elementary School on Saturdays, Sept. 21 through Oct. 12.

Sessions for second- through fourth-grade girls will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., with a session for fifth- through seventh-grade girls held from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.

Glendale school given 'excellence' tag

The Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association (MESPA) has named Glendale Elementary School in Savage a 2013-14 Minnesota School of Excellence.

Glendale is the only south metro school to get the award, which is given to schools that demonstrate a commitment to 21st century teaching and learning.

To win the award, a school's staff, students and community must create a School of Excellence school improvement plan and implement it effectively. Sam Richardson is the school's principal.

Board approves synthetic turf

The Prior Lake-Savage school board has approved installing synthetic turf at Dan Patch stadium at Prior Lake High School and Laker Varsity Field at Twin Oaks Middle School. The fields will be paid for through Minnesota's Lease Levy program and involve no tax increases. They should be completed by the beginning of next school year.

Farmington names new school official

The Farmington School District has selected Bill Tschida as athletics and activities director/assistant principal at Farmington High School. Tschida has been a teacher, an athletic director and a principal. He has also coached at the high school and college levels.

Nominations sought for education award

The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District's Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is seeking nominations for its third annual Inclusive Education Practices Award. The award recognizes outstanding school staff members who ensure that students with disabilities receive an inclusive education, get to learn with other students of all abilities and feel welcome at school.

Nominations are due Oct. 25. Forms can be downloaded on the district's website at www.isd191.org.

Shakopee

District announces Hall of Fame inductees

Shakopee Public Schools and the Shakopee Educational Endowment Foundation (SEEF) have chosen eight people to be inducted into the inaugural Shakopee Schools Hall of Fame. The Shakopee High School alumni were chosen because they have achieved distinction in their careers, in their personal lives or through work in the community.

The inductees are: Bert Notermann, Bonnie Notermann, Jesse Theis, Justin Kaufenberg, Fred Coller (posthumous award; wife JoAnn will accept on his behalf), Farmer Marschall, Antonia Felix and Patricia Pass.

They will be inducted on Oct. 4.
