Two chances are coming up for south-metro residents to offer thoughts as the DFL-dominated Metropolitan Council crafts a new long-range plan for the Twin Cities area.

The agency is calling the effort "ThriveMSP 2040," and it includes roundtable discussions on topics such as land use, transit, affordable housing and water supply.

The session south of the river is April 30 in Eagan. It lasts from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with informal networking at 6, in the Eagan Community Center's Central Oaks Room, 1501 Central Pkwy.

The next-closest session is Wednesday night in Eden Prairie, from 6 to 8 p.m., with networking at 5:30, in the east commons area of Eden Prairie High, 17185 Valley View Road.

The meetings will include a roundtable discussion and small-group sessions. Those attending are asked to RSVP online; see www.startribune.com/a2198. Those who don't attend a meeting can offer their input at http://yourideas.metrocouncil.org.
