The funeral for 9-year-old Devin Aryal, the Oakdale fourth-grader killed in a shooting rampage last Monday, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 4th St. N., Oakdale.

Devin died after being shot while sitting in the backseat of a minivan as he and his mother, Melissa Aryal, were on their way home from day care shortly after 6 p.m. Melissa Aryal was wounded in the random shooting near the corner of 7th Street and Hadley Avenue N. in Oakdale, which involved at least four other passing vehicles.

Karen Knoblach, who was in a vehicle with her three grandchildren, was also shot. She lost part of a finger in the attack.

Nhan L. Tran, 34, who lived with his parents about half a block from the intersection, was charged with six felonies, including two counts of attempted second-degree murder, in the attack. He was arrested without incident about 20 minutes after the shooting was reported. He is being held in the Washington County jail after bail was set at $2 million.

Devin -- a bright, inquisitive student who loved math, science and soccer, and who dreamed of becoming an astronaut -- is survived by his parents, Melissa and Dibaker, a sister, Savannah, a brother, Dibyam, and grandparents.

A memorial fund has been established at U.S. Bank.
